What’s the Difference Between IgE and IgG Allergy Tests?

IgE (Immediate Reactions)

IgE reactions are usually fast and can appear within minutes to a few hours after exposure. They are commonly associated with classic “allergies”.

  • Symptoms: hives, swelling, sneezing, wheeze, anaphylaxis (severe cases).
  • Useful for: pollen, dust mites, pet dander, peanuts, shellfish, etc.
  • Best when you suspect a quick & obvious trigger.

IgG (Delayed Reactions)

IgG reactions tend to be delayed — appearing hours to days later — and are often linked with food intolerances and low-grade inflammation.

  • Symptoms: bloating, fatigue, skin flare-ups, headache, brain fog.
  • Useful for: exploring delayed food-related responses (e.g., dairy, grains, eggs).
  • Best when symptoms are subtle or not clearly tied to one meal.
